Device and types of double sockets
The socket consists of an external protective housing and a working part, which includes the base and the contacts. The latter are interconnected by means of screw terminals - special clamps, to which the electrical equipment cable is connected. Depending on the modification, the following types of double sockets are distinguished:
- Open and closed execution. They differ in that the models of closed execution have curtains, closing the holes and shifted to the side when connecting the device. This is a special protection from small children and pets.
- With and without grounding. Models of the first type have ground contacts that protect people from current shocks, and electrical appliances - from power surges.
- For indoor and outdoor installation.The devices of the first type are labeled IP-44 and are equipped with a special case with protection against moisture. The second variant is accompanied by IP-55 marking and has additional protection against dust.
Preparation for installation of the outlet
To install the device you will need:
- cross-shaped and flathead screwdrivers;
- insulating tape;
- braid stripping tool.
Before you get started, you need to perform some preparatory steps. First, determine the identity of the wires, finding out the location of the "phase" and "zero". This is indicated by a special cable code marking:
- the neutral wire has blue or white and blue insulation;
- phase wire painted in brown or red;
- grounding is colored green-yellow.
To determine whether the wires belong to the device, remove the cover from the device and alternately touch a screwdriver with an indicator at the end to each of the exposed wires: the light signal will light up on the “phase” and nothing will happen on the “zero”.
Before arranging the electric point, be sure to de-energize the room by lowering down the levers for the machine guns on the dashboard so that they are in the “off” position.Recheck the voltage at the location of the double outlet. If there is a current on the “phase”, you need to make sure once again that all supply lines are de-energized. For security purposes, it is better to turn off all machines, not limited to those that control the wires connected to the outlet.
Marking on the wall
The socket is located close to the wire going to the wall or to the junction box. It is necessary to draw a pencil fixing device. First, determine the distance between the future holes for the installation of the outlet: mark the center of each socket, which will be the intersection point of the diagonals. Draw diagonals, the distance of which will correspond to the size of the outlet itself, and connect them at the intended point.
Drill holes in the wall with a crown, the diameter of which exceeds the size acquired by about two millimeters. When drilling a drywall or brick wall problems usually does not arise, however, when working with a concrete surface, you will need to turn on the percussion mode on the puncher. Clean the drilled niche with a chisel and hammer.Shoot down the cast with a screwdriver.
Wire routing and twisting
This is the most difficult and responsible stage of work that requires the observance of care and caution. It is time to connect the wiring to the contacts. Carefully pull it from the junction box to a double outlet. Instead of a crown, install a drill on the perforator with a slightly larger diameter than the cross-section of the wire supplied to the socket, or the diameter of the corrugated pipe in which the wire will be. Best of all, if the diameters of the wire and drill will be the same. Run the main cable through the first mounting hole, and the auxiliary cable through the second.
Twisting of wires should be carried out directly in the "glass". Before starting work, strip 1.5 cm of the sheath from the end of the cable, being careful not to accidentally bite it. For this, a sharp knife is quite suitable, which can be cut around the coil and carefully removed from the cable. To be comfortable, lift vertically the edges of the wires. To extend the life of the outlet, solder the bare ends of the wires or fasten them with a brass contact. The second option will be more effective, as it simplifies the further use of the outlet and makes it quite safe.
When connecting a grounded outlet, be sure to follow the basic wiring rule: the “zero” will be on the left and the “phase” on the right. Connect the grounding cable to the central and upper terminals of the device, equipped with antennae extending beyond the enclosure. The ground contact is fixed in the same way. Remember that it is forbidden to fasten the phase and neutral wires to one plate, otherwise it will inevitably lead to a short circuit and failure of the entire wiring. After completing the installation of electrical connections, you can proceed to the installation of plug-ins, which will be the final stage of work.
A double podrozetnik with electric wires connected to it is attached to the outlet by means of holders located on the side faces. These devices are not always included with the device, and in this case they need to be purchased separately. There are also models without fixing legs, which are screwed to the wall outlet and wall with screws.
To ensure high reliability of fastening, it is better to additionally use cement mortar or alabaster.The fact is that the double box is under a heavy load, and the attachment of the device can loosen and loosen during its operation. Mix dry alabaster with water to get a thick homogeneous mass, resembling sour cream in consistency. It is best to dilute the solution in small portions, which will be more convenient to work with. Place the material in the place where the box will come into contact with the wall. To ensure good adhesion of the mixture to the surface, pre-wet the inner edges of the niche with water. Approximately 20-30 minutes after the application of alabaster, you can begin to install the inside of the device. Place the “glass” in the prepared niche, press well and align its position using a level and a hammer.
If there are gaps between the wall and the wall, fill them with the remains of alabaster. Remove the nods with a knife until the plaster has gained absolute strength. Place the outlet in the correct position and, after making sure that the device is in the final position, fasten it with screws. If you need to adjust the level, use the round pliers.
It remains only to attach the top of the front panel and clamp it with screws. The case will cover the unsightly part of the outlet and protect it from possible damage. Once the outlet is fully installed, turn on the machine on the dashboard and check the operation of the electrical equipment. It is better to start testing with connecting small-sized devices, for example, small-sized household appliances or a desk lamp. This will allow the system to gain optimal power to work in more serious conditions, as well as to avoid serious consequences if there are errors in the installation process of the outlet.
