Going to an October Wedding? Here's Exactly What to Wear
While technically wedding season might take place smack-dab in the middle of summer (June being the most popular month), we find that another popular time for couples to say "I do" is in October. The weather is just getting nice and crisp, the leaves are turning and romance is definitely in the air.
While all that makes for a perfectly Instagrammable backdrop, dressing for such an affair can be quite the challenge. Will the church be freezing? Should you wear tights? And what about a ? One thing’s for certain: nothing kills a wedding guest outfit like a last-minute cover-up that swamps or completely clashes with your look. Our money is the magical power of sleeves and if you don’t want to bare your ankles: . Pretty printed dresses with full sleeves can be recycled into winter with knee-high boots and slouchy jumpers thrown over.
Don’t panic. If you’re off to an October wedding, be inspired by the outfits below.
Style Notes:There’s nothing chicer than a classic polka print and chiffon bell sleeves. Make like Parisian Ellie and top your frock off with lace-detail flats and a directional handbag for a guest-worthy look that’s anything but predictable.
Style Notes: Don’t relegate anything with spaghetti straps just yet—all you need to do it reach for a tailored jacket to take it on a season (and keep you warm during the vows). We love how Lisa Aiken has donned several shades of blue to create an effortless, tonal look.
Style Notes: If you’re a brunette, why not opt for yellow? Cheery—but by just the right token, it’s a brilliantly warm transitional colour.
If you don’t want to invest in a cover-up, a savvy shortcut to staying warm is wearing a dress that has elbow length sleeves or longer. A midi hem will also provide a little added courage. Then all you need is a prosecco jacket.
"Special" trousers—such as those with a wide leg or high waist (better still, both—like Freddie Harrel’s) can create just as much impact as a dress. Pair with a billowing blouse and earrings and you’re all set.
Roberta Benteler proves that shoe-boots can be occasion-worthy. Just keep them neutral and your dress patterned for maximum impact. And no one need ever know that you’ve gone for cashmere socks for cosiness.
