Dad's Beautiful Post Honors His Brave Wife, Who Is Carrying Their Baby to Term For Organ Donation
When Royce Young watched his pregnant wife sleeping on the couch one night, he decided to take a photo of her and shared it on Facebook along with their heartbreaking story about their child who will be born without a brain.
"We're getting closer to the finish line, and while it's going to be amazing to run through that tape and meet Eva, it comes at a cost," Royce wrote in this now viral Facebook post. "We'll go to the hospital for a birth, and go home without a baby."
Royce and his wife, Keri, received devastating news a few months ago that their daughter, Eva, will not develop a brain. The doctor also told the couple that she will only live a few days or hours due to this condition. As Royce explains in the post, the couple took the news through tears, and then Keri asked if they could continue to carry the child full-term in order to donate her organs.
I remember our doctor putting her hand on Keri's shoulder and saying, 'Oh honey, that's so brave of you to say.' Like, how nice of you, but come on. Keri meant it," Royce wrote on Facebook. "There I was, crestfallen and heartbroken, but I momentarily got lifted out of the moment and just stood in awe of her... In literally the worst moment of her life, finding out her baby was going to die, it took her less than a minute to think of someone else and how her selflessness could help. It's one of the most powerful things I've ever experienced."
The Youngs still have a few months before they see Eva in person, and they plan to donate her organs to a baby in need. "There's another family out there hurting and hoping for a miracle for their baby, knowing full well someone else's baby will need to die first." Royce added. "Eva can be that miracle."
This post isn't the first time the couple has shared details about their unique pregnancy story. Keri keeps her friends updated on Eva's journey through social media. "This was not an easy decision," she wrote in an Instagram post. "For the next 20 weeks I will feel her kick, have the hiccups and we'll be able to hear her perfect heart beating all while knowing we'll only get a few short hours with her when she's born."
Married for eight years, Royce and Keri currently live in Oklahoma City with their son, Harrison. They will be expecting Eva sometime this spring, and you can continue to follow their story on. We're sure Royce will continue to be amazed with his wife.
"I'm looking at Keri right now and I don't even have to ask. She's TOUGH. She's BRAVE. She's incredible. She's remarkable," Royce wrote. "She's cut from a different cloth, combining wit, beauty, courage, silliness, character and integrity into one spectacular woman.
