Muffin molds grease with oil, sprinkle with flour and heat the oven to 180 degrees.
Fresh cherries wash, dry, separate from the bones and cut in halves. (You can use frozen, canned or dried cherries out of season).
In a separate bowl, mix the dry ingredients: salt, baking powder, flour, sugar and cinnamon. Add the cherry and stir. In another bowl, beat the eggs, milk, softened butter and almond extract until smooth, then mix with the dry ingredients and cherries.
Fill the dough at 2/3 and bake for about 20-25 minutes. Remove from the oven, cool, then remove from the molds.
