The central square of the Chinese cityWuhanin theHubei Provinceis decorated with a giant sculpture of a lion made from a solid mahogany trunk. The author of the projectDending Rui Yao(Dengding Rui Yao) began work on a statue three years ago in Myanmar. He was helped by more than20 people, with the result that it was possible to pay attention to even the smallest details. The length of the sculpture is 14.3 meters, height - 4.9 meters and width - 4 meters, which makes it the world's largest wooden sculpture of a lion, even in the "Guinness Book of Records".

The use of a lion in public sculpture is an obvious choice, given the importance of the animal in Chinese culture. As a symbol of power, they are often used at the gates of palaces, temples and tombs to ward off evil spirits. Since its installation inWuhan, the giant lion has become a new favorite monument of the townspeople.
